  My wife is going to church!

  not only did i have the fortune of being raised a dub, but i also live in the heart of mormonism, good old slc.

  my wife went to lds church today and says she is going to start going every week.

  it seems there's a buzz about everybody being bi-polar or on anti-depressants.

  it seems a lot of people i know are taking anti-depressents.

  the doc said i'm *bi-polar 1* or something like that.

  Have you tried looking up some info on the computer? My step-son's mother is severly Bi-polar and I wanted to know more about it...just to keep an eye on my step-son, so I found some info on Bi-polar. You can start by using a search engine, like www.askjeeves.com. My step-son's mom has it pretty bad, though. She's been in and out of hospitals for many years. She looks very worn out, and sways back and forth when she is standing up....this is caused by the medication she takes. I wouldn't be surprised if she has been diagnosed with something else along with Bi-polar. I work in Community Corrections and I have seen many many people with Bi-polar, and they don't look as bad as my step-son's mother. So, I believe with PROPER medication a person can live a pretty normal life.

  Choosing for your kids

  i wonder how those of you who grew up in the borg and have left are dealing with your kids' choices when it comes to religion.... i know this was one promise i made to myself that i would never coerce my kids into going to church or religious meetings when they were old enough to stay home by themselves.

  i kept that committment and only one of the five chose to follow a different religious path.

  both i and my wife respected her decision and have never done anything to pressure her to "come back" or to have any religious inclinations of any kind.

  My children are still very young and I'm trying to raise them by following the bibles principles. Some may not totally believe in the Bible, but it has some good solid guidelines. For example, just simply, "Treat others like you would like to be treated". I am always getting compliments by their day care provider on their behavior and their treatment of the other kids. I am very strict when it comes to the treatment of others...and my kids know it!

  Their father is a JW, but as they get older I will let them make their own choices, and I will instill in them the belief that they have free will to do so, and I will always support them. I teach them that there is good in everybody; we just have to find the good in everyone and be the best contribution to society that we can be.

  I try to instill that kindness is the key, but we must also be examples of that. We also must show that we can stand up for what we believe and we will answer to ourselves, and deal with the consequences of our choices.

  it's worse than banging your head against a steel wall.

  it's a freaking effort in futility.

  I know what you mean....this lady is about my age (35), and she admitted to me that that's her life...work, go to meetings, service...and that's it. She sounds very lonely, if you ask me (and bored!). She really does need to get a life!!

  More on my Mom and the elders

  mom and i have both talked to the elders at her kh, to tell them what the guy at patterson told us........that there is no problem with her living here, and that people should be visiting her.

  mom misunderstood, and thought she was supposed to call all the elders.

  i am sure the fellow meant to tell an elder, so he could tell the others.

  I am so sorry your mother has to go through this. My mom lives alone and very fragile, and I feel like I have to protect her when the elders have started to intimidate and harass her too. I understand your frustration and concern for your dear mother. Hang in there!

  I just got my hair done by a JW beautician (don't ask me why). All she talked about is how bad the rest of her family that is out of the truth doing...and how Satan has his hold on them, and how we're so close to the end of this system. She sounded very much like a robot with a recorded message...kind of like when someone has been brainwashed! I asked myself the same question...did I sound like that? I don't think I'll be going to her again.
